Lippeverband

The Lippeverband was founded in 1926 as water-management board for the river central and lower Lippe. Right from the beginning it worked in close cooperation with the Emschergenossenschaft as the oldest German water board. The two boards cooperate under the roof of a uniform organisational structure. Their most important responsibilities are sewage purification, securing of drainage, flood protection and the monitoring of waters. The Lippeverband operates 51 sewage plants, 127 pump stations and takes care of 408 km of watercourses as well as 113 km of closed sewage ducts. Its legal mandate is the provision of public services to all citizens, without economic self-interest. Together with the Lippeverband and other cooperation partners, Urbane Künste Ruhr realized ÜBER WASSER GEHEN – land gewinnen.
